On February 1st 2025, SVEASØN debuted its official brand launch - creating a presentation-format fashion event which concurrently fused design, sculpture, and performance. The collection is entitled MØLYBDØMANCY - setting out to redifine the recourse around sustainable best practices, inclusive fashion design, and the combination of different mediums to convey a similarly felt message - fluidity is irrefutable, authentic integration is what solidifies its impact.
The set design was distinctly unique, focusing audience attention on five affronting sculptures which presented gender-neutrally. The atmospheric space generated an otherworldly anticipation around what was to come. The sculptural works were designed to depict a “modern interpretation of a stone circle”. Many of the works contained elements which were crafted with a tie-dye technique, strategically drawing back to the individuality of each garment, highlighting unforeseen colour combinations - that which produced entirely one of one pieces.
Capturing the audience’s attention, the presentation was positioned around a performance art piece - allowing the movement and versatility of the garments to truly shine. The show was choreographed by Tabea Jung, performed by dancers from the Folkwang University of the Arts. Thus creating another installment within fashion week which directly highlighted connections between fashion, art, and the surrounding community all at once. The models shifted between dance, reversing of the garments, and then cloaking the sculptures in their own clothing as the showcase went on.
The styling presented no hesitation in combining contrasting patterns, textures and materials - really honing the power of individuality. Though each of the stylings were wholly unique, the collection was seamless in the way it complemented itself, vibrant materials and colourways were pulled back to centre via earthy browns and metallic silvers, allowing pops of yellow, teal, and royal blue to shine. The collection had a playful sporty feel, shifting away from gorp-core into something more whimsical yet equally customisable and applicable to various environments.
The brand, is the creation of Svea Beckedorf and Shirin Benkus - the two collaborate via a shared passion for the pinpoint where art, fashion, and sustainability meet. The final - becoming more and more necessary in order to succeed in the up and coming world of textiles. With regulations getting more rigid around what types of materials will be allowed, it only makes sense that sustainability situates at the centre of SVEASØN’s world. This collection presents both the viewer and wearer with an opportunity to consider play in our day to day lives. Noting that actually we must not forget the power of authenticity, as our individual contributions are what propels the world to a more innovative, community-minded place.
